What does an image tell us when it's no longer perceptible? Illusionist canvases are primarily a set of dots and strokes and hold no message or interpretation. The author's questioning of figuration and abstraction in cityscapes is in relation to distance: from afar, the images can be easily identified as cityscapes. However, when moving closer, the representation dissolves into a vast expanse formed by brushstrokes and splashes of color.
